ANIMASHAUN OPEOLUWA: SEEING THE WORLD IN COLOR

Creativity has never been a distant dream for Animashaun Opeoluwa, also known as YSL Demon Fabio, it’s been home. Raised in Festac Town, Lagos, he grew up surrounded by rhythm, color, and culture. “Everywhere had this vibrant and colorful feeling to it,” he remembers. “From the buildings to the people to the cars, it was all aesthetically pleasing to me.” That early immersion in Lagos’ sensory chaos shaped the eye he has today, one that notices light, energy, and story in everything.

Opeoluwa’s roots run deep in creativity. “I’m actually from a family of creatives, from my parents to my siblings. They’ve been the ones inspiring me from the jump,” he says. It was his elder brothers, in particular, who lit the spark. “Seeing them do what they love and making it look cool inspired me to start my journey.”
Now, his journey has taken him places his younger self could only dream of. “I really don’t think I can pick a moment,” he says when asked about his proudest one. “It’s been so crazy, from shooting for people I used to look up to and listen to while growing up. It feels like a dream sometimes.”
Describing his style, he keeps it simple yet striking: “Vibrant and fly.” It’s a perfect reflection of both his work and personality. The VHS texture that often appears in his visuals isn’t just a stylistic choice; it’s a nostalgic nod to the past, blending memory with modern rhythm.

What does he hope people feel when they see his work? “Happy and inspired,” he says, effortlessly. His visuals aren’t about complication, they’re about emotion. They make you want to create, to move, to remember why art feels good.
When creative blocks show up, Opeoluwa finds balance in curiosity and movement. “I watch other creatives to broaden my mind and find inspiration or I play basketball. It helps me clear my head.” That rhythm of stepping back to step forward keeps his perspective sharp.

At the shoot, Opeoluwa’s creative energy was unmistakable. “Everything in general was creative,” he says. “From shooting behind the scenes to the interview to just relating with the other creatives, it all flowed naturally.”
And as for the future? He expresses: “I guess we’d find out then.”
